Healing Addiction and Substance Abuse with Internal Family Systems (IFS) Therapy
As a clinician, you understand the challenges that individuals struggling with addiction and substance abuse face. Internal Family Systems (IFS) therapy provides a compassionate and effective approach to working with addiction and substance abuse by addressing the underlying emotions and beliefs contributing to addictive behaviours.
This workshop will provide an introduction and explore using IFS therapy to address addiction and substance abuse. Participants will learn about the different parts involved in addiction, including managers, firefighters, exiles, and inner critics, and how these parts interact to drive self-destructive behaviours.
Through didactic learning, case studies and experiential exercises, participants will learn how to identify and work with the different parts involved in addiction using IFS techniques. Participants will also learn how to develop a more compassionate and understanding relationship with their internal system, reducing internal conflicts and promoting healing and recovery.
Topics covered will include:
-
An overview of IFS therapy and how it can be used to address addiction and substance abuse.
-
Understanding the different parts involved in addiction and how they interact with one another.
-
Applying IFS therapy to common co-occurring mental health conditions and trauma-related issues.
By the end of the workshop, participants will have gained a deeper understanding of the role that different parts play in addiction and how to apply IFS principles to support healing and recovery in their clients. Participants will also have tools and strategies for working with individuals struggling with addiction and substance abuse from a compassionate and effective approach.
