Angela Carter IFS Therapist

Hello my name is Angela

I'm passionate about access to up-to-date, affordable training, support and well-being services for health professionals.

The mission of Concinnity is to educate and support health professionals with the next generation of evidence-based professional development so they can provide the general public with up-to-date therapeutic interventions which work. Concinnity’s foundations are underpinned by Internal Family Systems (IFS), a cutting-edge psychotherapy model.

My Story

I had to travel the world to get up to training in trauma. Today it's a little easier with the advent of the pandemic and more international training being available online. I have invested heavily in my professional development because I was frustrated with out-of-date models, rising social issue statistics and the long waiting lists for access to any services.

Health professionals are passionate about delivering up-to-date, highly effective health interventions to support their client group. According to Christopher G. Fairburn∗ and Zafra Cooper “large numbers of therapists worldwide wish to receive training in how to deliver psychological treatments. Current training methods are poorly suited to this task as they are costly and require scarce expertise. New forms of training, therefore, need to be developed that are more cost-effective and scalable. Internet-based methods might fulfil these requirements while having the added advantage of providing trainees with extensive exposure to the treatment as practised.”

As a health professional, I am used to dealing with problems. I am also solution-focused. Concinnity was born out of frustration and passion for providing evidence-based, up-to-date professional development and a workplace support program for health professionals, which is affordable, easily accessible, experiential, and deliverable online and in person to meet the needs of my colleagues.

Who am I professionally?

I am currently (2023), the only New Zealand-certified trauma therapist trained under Bessel van der Kolk and the Trauma Research Foundation. I am trained in Neuroscience, Internal Family Systems (IFS), Polyvagal Theory, Safe and Sound Protocol®, Mindfulness, Meditation, Quantum Healing, Energy Medicine, Breath Work, HeartMath®, Visualisation, Havening Touch, and am currently completing my certification in Somatic Embodiment.

I class myself as a lifelong learner and work from a place of 'do no harm' when it comes to client work. I am a registered Social Worker, Family Therapist, certified HeartMath® Practitioner, and approved ACC therapist with a 30-year career as a health professional. I am also an Internal Family Systems (IFS) informed Practitioner and have completed over 100 hours of training in IFS over the last four years. I am passionate about integrating the principles of IFS into everyday practice for health professionals.

I am the author of two books, Give a Flying f*ck About Your Thoughts; they matter and Releasing Trauma with Love. I am the creator of The Advancing Protocol®. This neuroscience-based process activates the parasympathetic nervous system to create safety in the body and then release and recode its emotional charge. I am also the Concinnity Group director, which hosts three therapeutic services. The Trauma Release Centre; a neuroscience-based therapeutic service. The Phenomenal Therapist, an online self-led IFS group therapy community and Concinnity, supports health professionals to thrive in their jobs and lives with the integration of Internal Family Systems.

I will continue to train, learn and grow as a health professional as we learn more about the brain, body and heart. It's my passion and I would love it if it became yours.

In abundant love and kindness for the gracious work we all do,

Your colleague and cheerleader,

Angela
